  • CURTIN UNIVERSITY

Location: Perth (rural placements available across Western Australia)

    Type of Degree: Undergraduate

    Length:  5 Years

Rural Focus: Curtin University offers a rural entry pathway for rural applicants from Western Australia. Eligible applicants will receive up to five additional adjustment points to their ATAR (not exceeding a score of 99.95). To apply for this pathway, rural applicants must also complete the Rural entry application form in addition to applying for the course through TISC.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants can apply directly to Curtin Medical School (and are not required to submit a TISC application). Applicants are not required to sit the UCAT or Casper Test. Applicants must submit the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry form directly to the medical school. Shortlisted applicants will attend the compulsory Medicine Pre-Admission program where applicants will be assessed for key attributes necessary for medicine as well as gain a better understanding of the learning and teaching of the medicine degree at Curtin Medical School and available support services.

Curtin University also offers the Indigenous Pre-Medicine and Health Sciences Enabling Course (one year of full-time study) to prepare students for entry into health science courses. Completion of the course with successful passing of all units allows students to apply for Curtin Medical School without requiring the Casper Test or UCAT.

Admission scores: Year 12 School Leavers applying for Curtin University require a minimum ATAR of 95. Applicants (other than Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry applicants) must sit the UCAT and Casper Test. Applicants are ranked for interview based on the weighted sum of their ATAR or equivalent, Casper Test Score and UCAT score in the ratio of 35:35:30 (meaning UCAT is weighted slightly less than the other two scores). Offers for a medicine place will be based on ATAR or equivalent, UCAT and interview performance in the ratio 40:20:40 (meaning UCAT is weighted the least).

Selection is based on GAMSAT, Casper test and an interview. Priority is given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, equity applicants, WA rural residents particularly residents of the Kimberley or Pilbara regions. Applicants of the Sydney and Fremantle campuses can both apply for KCRMT, however the preference for The University of Notre Dame Fremantle Campus may be taken into account and given priority when ranking for places.

An assured pathway for KCRMT is available for high school leavers from the Kimberley and Pilbara regions who enter the UNDA Bachelor of Biomedical Science - Assured Pathway or the Bachelor of Advanced Biomedical Science (Honours) - Assured Pathway to MD. Entry is contingent upon maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester throughout their undergraduate degree.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry: Students can apply to the medicine through the Aboriginal Entry Pathway for both the Fremantle and Sydney MD programs. Offers are based on the completion of a degree in the past 10 years, GPA and an interview. For successful applicants of the WA program, the Aboriginal Health Team runs a one-week intensive premedicine preparation program.
