  • UNIVERSITY OF TASMANIA

    Location: Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast

    Type of Degree: Undergraduate

    Length:  5 Years

Rural Focus: UTAS has the Rural Application Process which allows for consideration of rurality in the application process. Under the Rural Application Process Year 12 leavers from MM2 regions can get an adjustment of 4 additional ATAR points. Year 12 leavers from an MM3-7 area receive an adjustment of 5 additional ATAR points. Applying for the Rural Application Pathway is part of the usual UTAS electronic application process (there is not a separate application form).

UTAS also has an option to study the entire course on the North-West Coast of Tasmania (Cradle Coast Campus) through the Tasmanian Rural Training Stream. Priority for this stream will be given to applicants from rural and regional areas. To apply for this stream applicants should preference the Cradle Coast campus on their UTAS online application for BMedScMD.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander can apply for medicine at UTAS through the Aboriginal Entry Pathway. Admission for high school leavers is based on the completion of the Aboriginal Entry Pathway - Application Form, personal statement, meeting subject prerequisite requirements, a competitive ATAR score and an interview. UCAT is not required for applications through this pathway. Admission for non-school leavers requires additional qualifications and experience in health-related fields and a referee report.

Admission scores: The minimum ATAR for consideration is 95 (including adjustment for rural status). UCAT score is also used to rank applicants with the same ATAR. Applicants who have completed tertiary study require a minimum GPA of 5.25 and a minimum score of 50 in all sections of the GAMSAT.
